What was the main reason for Europeans to colonize Africa and china

Answer:

In case of Africa, European imperialism started because of the selfish motives of economic exploitation and political competition.

In China's situation,since European imperial powers could not control all of the China,they settled for colonizing small parts such as Honk Kong and Macua,along China's coast and securing economic concessions inland.
