Tarenorerer (also known as Walyer) was an Aboriginal Tasmanian woman who led a rebellion against British colonialism on the island of Tasmania during the Black War of the 1820s and 1830s. She was a member of the Pallittorre people, and her exact birthdate is unknown.
Tarenorerer's leadership and military tactics were instrumental in the resistance against the British colonizers. She led guerilla forces in a series of attacks on British settlements and outposts, which were often successful in driving the colonizers away. However, her forces were eventually defeated, and Tarenorerer was captured in 1830.
After her capture, Tarenorerer was imprisoned on Flinders Island and later on Vansittart Island. She died in prison in 1831, possibly from pneumonia or tuberculosis. Despite her capture and death, Tarenorerer's legacy as a rebel leader against British colonialism lives on as an important figure in Tasmanian Aboriginal history.
