Arjun’s mom is throwing a birthday party for his younger sister! She’s trying to figure out how many cupcakes to order when she realizes that it depends on the number of people eating cupcakes at the party.

What is the independent variable in this scenario? Why?

The independent variable is something that stands independent like the name. Nothing can change or effect this number essentially making it invincible. The number of cupcakes she has to get is a dependant variable because it depends on the number of kids coming so that is definitely not the independent variable. Remember, the independent variable can stand alone and is not effected by any number. Hope that helps!

Answer:

Arjun's mom can vary the number of cupcakes she orders depending on the number of people expected to eat them.

Explanation:

The independent variable in this scenario is the number of people eating cupcakes at the party. It is a variable that can be changed or manipulated and is not affected by other variables. In this case, Arjun's mom can vary the number of cupcakes she orders depending on the number of people expected to eat them.
