Rutherford B. Hayes was the 19th President of the United States, serving from 1877 to 1881. He was born on October 4, 1822, in Delaware, Ohio, and graduated from Kenyon College and Harvard Law School.

Before entering politics, Hayes served in the Union Army during the American Civil War, eventually being promoted to the rank of Major General. He also served as a Congressman from Ohio and Governor of Ohio before being elected President in 1876. His presidency was marked by a number of significant events, including the end of Reconstruction in the South, the Great Railroad Strike of 1877, and the resumption of specie payments.

After leaving office, Hayes became involved in various philanthropic and educational endeavors, including founding the Hayes Presidential Library and Museums in Fremont, Ohio. He passed away on January 17, 1893, at the age of 70.
