Heredity Lab Report

Instructions: In the Heredity lab, you investigated how hamsters inherit traits from their parents. Record your observations in the lab report below. You will submit your completed report.
________________________________________
Name and Title:
Include your name, instructor's name, date, and name of lab.

Objective(s):
In your own words, what was the purpose of this lab?
To know how the parents fur length affects the offspring.
Hypothesis:
In this section, please include the if/then statements you developed during your lab activity. These statements reflect your predicted outcomes for the experiment.
Test One: If I breed a short fur, FF female with a short fur, Ff male, then I will expect to see short and some long fur offspring.
Test Two: If I breed a short fur, Ff female with a short fur, Ff male, then I will expect to see all short fur offspring.
Test Three: If I breed a long fur, ff female with a long fur, ff male, then I will expect to see all long fur offspring.

Procedure:
The procedures are listed in your virtual lab. You do not need to repeat them here. Please be sure to identify the test variable (independent variable) and the outcome variable (dependent variable) for this investigation.
Remember, the test variable is what is changing in this investigation. The outcome variable is what you are measuring in this investigation.
Test variable (independent variable):
Outcome variable (dependent variable):

Data:
Record the data from each trial in the data chart below. Be sure to fill in the chart completely.
Test One
Parent 1: FF
Parent 2: Ff

Phenotype ratio:
________ : ________
short fur : long fur

Test Two
Parent 1: Ff
Parent 2: Ff

Phenotype ratio:
________ : ________
short fur : long fur

Test Three
Parent 1: ff
Parent 2: ff

Phenotype ratio:
________ : ________
short fur : long fur

Conclusion:
Your conclusion will include a summary of the lab results and an interpretation of the results. Please write in complete sentences.
1. Which genotype(s) and phenotype for fur length are dominant?
2. Which genotype(s) and phenotype for fur length are recessive?
3. If you have a hamster with short fur, what possible genotypes could the hamster have?
4. If you have a hamster with long fur, what possible genotypes could the hamster have?
5. Did your data support your hypotheses? Use evidence to support your answer for each test.
o Test One:
o Test Two:
o Test Three:
6. Which hamsters are the parents of the mystery hamster? Include evidence to prove that they are the correct parents.

Name and Title: your name, your instructor’s name, May 29, 2023, Heredity Lab Report

Objective(s): The purpose of this lab was to investigate how hamsters inherit traits from their parents.

Hypothesis:
Test One: If I breed a short fur, FF female with a short fur, Ff male, then I will expect to see short and some long fur offspring.
Test Two: If I breed a short fur, Ff female with a short fur, Ff male, then I will expect to see all short fur offspring.
Test Three: If I breed a long fur, ff female with a long fur, ff male, then I will expect to see all long fur offspring.

Procedure: The test variable (independent variable) is the fur length of the parents, and the outcome variable (dependent variable) is the fur length of the offspring.

Data:
Test One
Parent 1: FF
Parent 2: Ff
Phenotype ratio: 2:2 short fur: long fur

Test Two
Parent 1: Ff
Parent 2: Ff
Phenotype ratio: 4:0 short fur: long fur

Test Three
Parent 1: ff
Parent 2: ff
Phenotype ratio: 0:4 short fur: long fur

Conclusion: The results of the lab support the hypothesis that the fur length of the parents affects the fur length of the offspring. The data shows that when both parents have short fur, the offspring will have short fur. When one parent has long fur and the other has short fur, there is a 50/50 chance that the offspring will have long or short fur. When both parents have long fur, the offspring will have long fur.

( you’re going to have to put your name and your instructor’s name at the beginning since I don’t know it. But I hope this helped ! :) )

Name and Title: add your name
Objective: the objective is how organisms inherit traits

Hypothesis: if I breed a short fur, Ff female with a short fur, Ff male, then I will expect to see( all short fur offspring

For the rest add what you think it will be
this part Is pretty easy.

Procedure:

Test variable: the parent hamsters and their dominant gene

Outcome variable: the resulting offspring

Test 1

Parent 1: Ff Ff

Parent 2:Ff. Ff

Phenotype ratio:

0 for long fur

4 for short fur

Parent 1: Ff

Test 2

Parent 2: Ff

FF. Ff

Ff. Ff

Phenotype ratio: 1 for long fur and 3 for short fur

Test 3

Parent 1: ff

Parent 2:ff. Ff. Ff
Ff. Ff

Phenotype ratio: 2 for long fur and 2 for short fur

Conclusion:
Before I start please paraphrase this so you can get full credit.

For the first question it’s :

The dominant genotypes are FF & ff and the dominant phenotype is short hair.

For question 2: The genotype is ff and the phenotype for fur length is long hair

For question 3: the hamster could have the genotypes FF & Ff

For question 4: the hamster could have the genotype ff

For question 5:

Test One: yes, because all the hamsters had short hair

Test two: yes, because all except one had long hair

Test three: no, because not all of them had long hair, some had short hair.

For question six:

The Ff and the Ff are the mystery hamsters. The cross has shown that they can make offspring with short hair or long hair

I hope this helps
