a spring stretches 2.1 cm when a 6 g object is hung from it. the object is replaced with a block of mass 14 g. Calculate the period of motion.

Answer:

F = M g = - K x

K = .006 kg * 9.80 m/s^2 / .021 m = 2.8 N / m force constant of spring

ω = (K / M)^1/2 = (2.8 / .014)^1/2 = 14.1 / sec angular frequency

ω = 2 π f = 2 π / P where P is period of oscillation

P = 2 π / ω = 2 * 3.14 / 14.1 = .446 sec
