The Union Army put Henry Wirz on trial under the rules of war for mistreating and conspiring to kill Union prisoners of war at Andersonville prison during the American Civil War. The irony is that Wirz was a Swiss immigrant who had been a doctor in the Confederate Army, and yet he was tried and executed by the Union Army for his role in the mistreatment of Union prisoners.
