The receiving side, also known as the cis-Golgi, is responsible for receiving molecules from the endoplasmic reticulum (ER) and sorting them into vesicles for transport to the shipping side, also known as the trans-Golgi, where they are further modified and packaged into vesicles for secretion out of the cell or delivery to their final destination within the cell.
