I will assume the candle burns 1 inch per hour ( you left that out of your post)

Length of candle remaining = 9 - 1 x where 'x' = hours

amount of candle remaining = 0 = 9 - x

x = 9 hrs

If it is NOT one inch per hour ....put that number where '1' is and solve for x
