Answer:

see explanation

Explanation:

using the following properties of parallelograms

• opposite sides are congruent

• opposite angles are congruent

• consecutive angles are supplementary ( sum to 180° )

• diagonals bisect each other

(1)

XY = WZ

3a - 4 = a + 2 ( subtract a from both sides )

2a - 4 = 2 ( add 4 to both sides )

2a = 6 ( divide both sides by 2 )

a = 3

and

2b = b + 1 ( subtract 1 from both sides )

b = 1

--------------------------------------------------

(2)

2y - 40 = y + 10 ( subtract y from both sides )

y - 40 = 10 ( add 40 to both sides )

y = 50 , then

y + 10 = 50 + 10 = 60 , so

4x + 60 = 180 ( subtract 4x from both sides )

4x = 120 ( divide both sides by 4 )

x = 30

------------------------------------------------

(3)

x - 3 = 15 ( add 3 to both sides )

x = 18

and

y + 3 = 12 ( subtract 3 from both sides )

y = 9

------------------------------------------------------

(4)

4x = x + 6 ( subtract x from both sides )

3x = 6 ( divide both sides by 3 )

x = 2

and

5y - 8 = 3y + 1 ( subtract 3y from both sides )

2y - 8 = 1 ( add 8 to both sides )

2y = 9 ( divide both sides by 2 )

y = 4.5
