Answer: The trait is recessive.

Explanation: A recessive trait only shows itself in certain conditions. It appears in the individual when their genotype is homozygous (identical alleles).

For example, if a female flower and male flower have the genotype Bb for a certain trait, 25% of their offspring are likely to have the bb genotype for that trait. 50% will have the Bb genotype (carriers of the recessive trait) and 25% will have the BB genotype.
