B. Desiderius Erasmus was one of Luther's major inspirations. Luther was heavily influenced by Erasmus' ideas about the importance of studying the Bible in its original languages and his critiques of the Catholic Church's abuses of power and wealth. However, while Luther respected Erasmus, the two had significant theological differences and eventually became opponents.
