A floor rug is rectangular in shape.  The length of the rug is 2 ft less than three times is width.  The perimeter of the rug is 108 ft.  What is the width of the rug?

l = 3w - 2

2(3w - 2) + 2w = 108

3w - 2 + w = 54

4w = 56

w = 14 ft

The width of the rug is 14 feet.
