The sum of two numbers is twelve and the difference of two numbers is -4. Find these two numbers.



If there are twice the number of nickels”x” then there are quarters”y” and the amount of money is 1.75. Find the number of each coin.

let the two number be x and y then,

x+y=12

x-y=-4

2x=8

or, x = 4 put the value of x in first equation

4+y= 12

or, y=12-4

or, y= 8 hence the two number is 4 and 8
