Distribute the negative to 3x-4.
2 -3x+4 = 2x-9
-3x+8 = 2x-9
Add 3x on both sides.
8 = 5x - 9
Add 9 to both sides.
17 = 5x
Divide 5 on both sides to isolate x.
x = 17/5
