that means that

AB=BC=CD

M is the midpoint so AM =MD

M is also the midpoint of BC also so if MC equal 8 l, BM equal 8. We add 8 and 8 together to find the value of BC which equal 16. Since BC equal 16 and it trisects AD, AB equal 16 and CD equal 16. Add all together and we get 16+16+16=16×3=48
