Skeletal muscle is composed of contractile multinucleate muscle cells called myofibers. ... They can be activated after an injury to produce myoblasts that proliferate and then differentiate into multinucleate and contractile myotubes. This process of progenitor proliferation and then differentiation is called myogenesis.
