Why is power divided between the three branches of government?

Answer:

The founding fathers wanted to keep the power of their new gov’t separate because If the branches weren’t split up the one branch would abuse their power. They created the legislative, executive, and judicial branch and divided their powers equally and created a system of checks and balances so that no one would have to much power and act like a king.
