If he made 7 gallons of stew and ate 3 then 4 gallons of stew would be left.
7-3=4
But if he made 8 gallons of stew and ate 3 then their are 5 gallons left.
8-3=5

STEW Merlin made 7 − 8 gallon of stew. Then he ate 3 − 4 gallon of stew. How much stew was left over?
