Found this bug in my backyard, but was unable to identify it. Thanks for any hint! Edit : I live in the south east suburbs of Denver, Centennial.

So this is quite an urban area. I found this bug on my deck, and it escaped going under my deck. The board in the pictures are from my deck (composite, not real wood). My backyard is quite small, mostly grass and not a lot of flowers. The bug's body is around 3/4".

Final answer:

The bug found in the backyard is a beetle.

Step-by-step explanation:

The bug you found in your backyard is a beetle. Beetles are a type of insect and are characterized by their unique hard outer wing covers called elytra. They have a diverse range of shapes and sizes, and can be found in various environments around the world.

Based on your description, it is difficult to identify the specific species of beetle you found. If you have a clear photo of the bug, you can try using online bug identification resources or consult an entomologist for a more precise identification.
