Naturalistic observation involves observing subject of interest in their normal, everyday setting. For example: cultural anthropogist Margaret mead used naturalistic observation to study the daily lives of different groups in the south Pacific.

Laboratory observation happen when a person gathers and records information about an experiment with in a laboratory setting. Example of lab observation include noting the formation of crystals and recording survey results.
