5x + 33 = 3x + 19 ( subtract 3x from both sides )

2x + 33 = 19 ( subtract 33 from both sides )

2x = - 14 ( divide both sides by 2 )

x = - 7

substitute x = - 7 into either of the 2 equations to solve for y

substituting into (1)

y = 3(- 7) + 19 = - 21 + 19 = - 2

solution is x = - 7 , y = - 2
