A spinner contains the numbers 1 through 50. What is the probability that the spinner will land on a number that is not a multiple of 8?

Explanation:

For your probability, the bottom number is ALL the possibilities. The top number is the number of ways that your desired outcome can happen. In this case, its easier to count how many ways you can get a multiple of 8 (8, 16, 24, 32, 40, 48---6 ways!)

Then subtract,

50 - 6 is 44.

44 numbers are NOT multiples of 8.

P(~multiple of 8)

= 44/50

Simplify.

= 22/25
