a tragic flaw is a secret weakness of the hero that causes his/her downfall. some examples of characters who have tragic flaws are macbeth and achilles.

the most common type of tragic flaw is that of "hubris," or pride. basically, the pride gets in the way of the hero and it eventually leads to their downfall.
