This Commandant opposed U.S. intervention in the Bay of Pigs of Invasion and in the Cuban Missile Crisis. This Commandant also bitterly opposed U.S. involvement in the Vietnam War knowing full well that support for western ideals in Vietnam was chimeric. In particular, he opposed air bombings that caused civilian casualties and further enraged the people of what was formerly French Indochina.
