Answer:

During this story, Kenny goes through alot, I mean he nearly died! That must have made a big impact in his life. After leaving for Birmingham, Kenny and his family travel many places, giving Kenny a chance to explore and see through the eyes of other states. And we know that once the Watsons get back to Flint, Michigan, Kenny has definitely changed. He spends most of his time behind the couch, thinking back to Birmingham.

For much of the book, Kenny sees his brother as a tough, wisecracking older brother who is there when he's in a bind, but their relationship is fairly superficial.
