If

two open cans of different diameters were left
out in the rain, how would the amount of
water they collected compare? How would the
depth of water in the cans compare?

the can with the larger diameter would of course collect more water but the depths in the two cans would be equal. Steady rain falls at a rate of (perhaps) drops per square inch per minute.
