Do you think genetically engineering babies should be banned in the United States? Why or why not?

I believe that it should be legal to genetically engineer babies. My reasoning for this is as follows. Many people have a history of genetic conditions in their families. If the faulty gene is known, genetically engineering babies can allow couples to have biological children without the worry of passing genetic conditions on to their children.
