Why was 1835 called “the happy year" and 1836 called “the sad year” in Texas History?

In 1835 the morality rate was high so it was a good time compared to 186 when the war on Mexico started and fatality was happening

‘35 they were thriving and moral was high while in 36’ they are attacked by Mexico and fail to protect the missions. A lot of people died.
