Based on the need for Tin to add to Copper to make Bronze which Tin was rarely found in Mesopotamia the Assyrians founded trading colonies in central Turkey to capitalize on the market, and roughly in 1270 B.C.E. Assyrians we’re trading with the Hittite’s for Iron objects. This is known for the Kizzuwadna Letter, a recorded of the diplomatic exchange between Hittite King Hattusilis III and Assyrian King Adad-nirari I for iron dagger blades made in Kizzuwadna.

It is suspected that the Assyrian people obtained iron from mines in Kurdistan or Layard being only 3-4 days away
