How does mutating the DNA affect the organism?

DNA mutations create genetic variation.
They could have no visible effect, no affect at all or cause something to happen, e.g cancer, or genetic mutations in the gametes lead to genetic variation in offspring. They can also lead to genetic diseases, for example cystic fibrosis or Huntingtons disease
