A car that originally cost $3,778 in 1955 is valued today at $63,525 if in excellent condition. Which is 2 3/4 times as much as a car in very nice condition—if you can find an owner willing to part with one for any price. What would be the value of the car in very nice condition?

Explanation:

x = price in very nice condition.

(2 3/4)x = 63525

as 2 = 4×2/4 = 8/4

(4×2 + 3)/4 x = 63525

11/4 x = 63525

x = 4×63525/11 = 254100/11 = 23100

so, the car in very nice condition costs $23,100.
