Phantom pain occurs after the subject/patient has had an amputation. It is commonly pain, as if the limb were still there.

The brain thinks that the limb (or whatever part of the body) has not been removed, and so feels pain in the area it would have been. It can be disorienting, but after a while, you may become used to it.
