why do you think the protagonist killed the old man and then confessed? Is he truly mad, or is he a calculated killer? Use evidence from the text to support your claim. Please help me

Answer:

1. Because the old man's vulture eye tormented him and he had to rid himself of it forever. ... he thought the police really knew that he killed the old man and were mocking him and merely trying his patience.

2. The evidence in the story proves that the narrator is mentally unstable. His insanity is well-hidden behind the facade of a calculated killer; however, his true insanity is shown times throughout the story.
