(1)/(2) bh ( b is the base and h the perpendicular height )

using the vertical side of the triangle as base , then

base = 9 units

the perpendicular height is then the line from the base to the opposite vertex, that is

height = 8 units

(1)/(2) × 9 × 8 = 4.5 × 8 = 36 units²
