How can a decrease in rumen pH lead to acidosis?

Answer:

Acidosis in beef cattle occurs when the rumen microbes produce more acid than what can be used and rumen pH falls below 5.6 for an extended amount of time. Normal rumen pH ranges between 5.5 and 7. There are two types of acidosis – acute and subacute.
