Hailey is buying flowers for an event. She spends

$4.25 for each chrysanthemum and $5.50 for
each daffodil. Hailey ends up spending $150 total
on 30 flowers.
What is the system of equations that can help de-
termine the number of chrysanthemums, repre-
sented as c, and the number of daffodils, repre-
sented as d, that Hailey purchased?

Answer:

18 daffodils

12 chrysanthemums

Explanation:

4.25c + 5.50d = 150

c + d = 30

c = 30 - d

4.25 (30 - d) + 5,50d = 150

127.50 - 4.25d + 5.50d = 150

1.25d = 150 - 127.50

d = 22.50/1.25

d = 18

c = 30 - 18 = 12
