Evaluation

Answering the question can be accomplished a couple of ways. One of them is to plot the line and the points and see which points lie on the line.

Another is to evaluate the equation at the different points to see which ones make it true.

Rewrite

We can also rewrite the equation to put it in a form that makes it easier to check a solution.

Multiplying by 5, we have ...

5y = 3x +4

Subtracting 5y gives ...

3x -5y +4 = 0

The attached calculator display shows this being evaluated for all of the offered choices. The values of x and y are listed, so the solutions come out as a list. Only the last three points (bottom row) give a result of 0.

The points on the graph are (2, 2), (-3, -1), (7, 5).
