Harriet Tubman is one of the most famous abolitionists in American history. She was born into slavery in Maryland and escaped to freedom in the North. Tubman then made multiple trips back to the South to rescue other slaves using the Underground Railroad. She was also a key figure in the Union Army during the Civil War and continued to advocate for civil rights and women's suffrage after the war.
