On 12 May 2003, Tony Blair made a public apology to Saddam Hussein for the decision to invade Iraq. The apology followed the discovery of weapons of mass destruction (WMD) in Iraq, which were later found not toexist. The invasion of Iraq led to the deaths of 179 British soldiers and over 1,500 other soldiers from other countries.
