The values of x for the questions posed are : 14.12 and 2.8 respectively.

Using the Altitude theorem :

  • BC² = AC × DC

Now we have ;

30² = 34 × DC

30²/34 = DC

DC = 26.47

Using pythagoras;

x² = 30² - 26.47²

x² = 900 - 700.6609

x² = 199.3391

x = √199.3391

x ≈ 14.12

Hence, the value of x is 14.12 units

2.)

Similar to the figure drawn above ;

4.6² = 5.8 × DC

4.6²/5.8 = DC

DC = 3.65

Using pythagoras;

x² = 4.6² - 3.65²

x² = 21.16 - 13.3225

x² = 7.8375

x = √7.8375

x ≈ 2.80

Hence, the value of x is 2.8 feets (nearest tenth)
