Why anaerobic respiration is to have evolved earlier than aerobic respiration?

Answer:

Life is believed to have started in water, consequently translating to problems bordering around the amount of dissolved gases (especially Oxygen) available. This would in turn influence how organisms find means of survival, one of which is being able to respire in the absence of oxygen. You would also observe that evolution sets in, organisms start adapting to life on land, the need to develop features to allow more atmospheric oxygen sets in.
