Costcorp sells packets of mints to shop owners.

On Monday three shop owners buy mints from Costcorp.

Each shop owner buys small packets, medium packets and large packets of mints.

Alan buys 400 packets of mints.
32% are small packets.
40% are large packets.

Beryl buys 500 packets of mints.
3/10 are small packets.
1/10 are large packets.

Charlie buys 150 small packets of mints so that

number of small packets:number of medium packets = 3: 4

Work out the total number of medium packets of mints these shop owners buy.

Answer: 475 Medium Packs

Explanation:

1) 32% of 400 is the equation 0.32×400=128 small

40% of 400 is the equation 0.40×400=160 large

128+160=288, 400-288=112 medium packs

2) 1/10 of 500 is 50 (divide 500 by 10), so there are 50 large

3/10 of 500 is 150 (we know 1/10 is 50, so multiply 50×3=150), so there are 150 small

150+50=200, 500-200=300 medium packs

3) To get as many small and medium packs as possible, you multiply the ratio by 21 (so 21×3=63 and 21×4=84), the number that matters is 63, because the 3 in the ratio represents the number of medium packs.

(Doing this allows for 63 medium packs, 84 small packs, and 3 large packs)

4) Add 112+300+63= 475 medium packs
