~~~~~~~~~~~~\textit{distance between 2 points} \\\\ A(\stackrel{x_1}{1}~,~\stackrel{y_1}{5})\qquad B(\stackrel{x_2}{4}~,~\stackrel{y_2}{2})\qquad \qquad d = √(( x_2- x_1)^2 + ( y_2- y_1)^2) \\\\\\ AB=√((~~4 - 1~~)^2 + (~~2 - 5~~)^2) \implies \implies AB=√(( 3 )^2 + ( -3 )^2) \\\\\\ AB=√( 9 + 9 ) \implies AB=√( 18 )\implies AB\approx 4.24
now, we could do the same thing for CD, however, notice, the y-coordinates are the same, meaning is just a horizontal line, we can just count the units off the grid, from 2 to 6, 4 units.
