The clock grinned mischievously as Marie crept slowly up the creaking old stairs. Creak, creak, the stairs were grumbling... She was as quiet as a mouse as her heart beat like a drum in her chest. She stopped suddenly, when she saw a shadow at the top of the stairs lurking like a vulture, waiting for prey. She started to shake nervously, beads of sweat forming on her brow as she advanced. She was quiet, dead quiet.
