Individual organisms have a variety of traits that make them different from each other. Traits such as fur color and eye color vary from one individual to another. What determines the traits of an individual organism?

Traits can be determined mostly by genes but can be by environmental factors, or a combination of both. Traits can be qualitative (such as eye color) or quantitative (such as height or blood pressure) A given Trait is part of an individual's overall phenotype.
