Explanation:

Area of rectangle = Length × Width

This shape needs to be split then you simply work out the area of each shape and add it.

Shape 1: 3cm × 5cm = 15cm^2

Shape 2: 2cm × 11cm = 22cm^2

Now add them together: 15cm^2 + 22cm^2 = 37cm^2
