A car leaves the school traveling west at 40 miles

per hour. After it travels 20 miles, a motorcycle
follows the car, traveling at 50 miles per hour.
After how many hours will the motorcycle catch

Create a system of equations

40x(car speed) +20(distance already traveled) = 50x (motorcycle speed)

simplify

40x+20=50x

20=10x

x=2
