Explanation:

Ok for this one it is important to understand that it is saying the same thing as 4*___=-12. So that being said, lets rewrite the equation with x instead of a blank:

4x=-12 (once again: this is the exact same thing, just that we are using a symbol (x) to represent a blank)

We then must perform algebra to solve this:

Isolate x (you must divide by 4 on both sides to do this)

4x=-12

x=-12/4

(Now simplify, because there is an odd number of negatives the answer will be negative)

x=-3
