The Civil War revealed that the Union was strong enough to withstand the secession of the Confederate States, and that the United States was a unified republic with a powerful central government. It also showed that the North had superior resources, manpower and industrial power which eventually helped them win the war. The Civil War ultimately cemented the fate of the United States as a unified republic and established its dominance as a major world power.
